Tang Wei, one of the most prominent film stars in China, was the unfortunate victim of a phone scam which led to her sending almost $35,000 to an individual who was thought to be a police officer while in the midst of a film shoot in Shanghai. Tang Wei is known to Chinese audiences as the actress who rose to prominence as a superstar actress for her acting, her beauty and for the Chinese media ban in 2008 she received for her sexual acts in Ang Lee's movie "Lust, Caution".
Tang Wei was the unfortunate victim of being too trusting and too focused on the film project she was working on but her reaction to the scam was very professional and gained her admiration to many within the entertainment industry. Tang Wei did not use this unfortunate situation as an excuse to stop filming or even lose focus on the set. Ever the consummate actress Tang Wei went back to the set and never missed a minute of work which is a testament to her professionalism.
In 2014 Tang Wei is going to be introduced to North American audiences in the movie "Cyborg" as she will appear in the film and in the process be working alongside Hollywood stars Chris Hemsworth and Viola Davis which ironically will be about another type of criminal activity, computer hacking. Some entertainment insiders are predicting that this role might become the first of many for Tang Wei because many people believe she is someone who can bring the Asian audiences to the North American movie theaters. She is a renowned sex symbol in China and once she is seen on the North American movie screens it is very likely she will become very popular with both fans and Hollywood producers as well.
The next Chinese film star to make her mark in Hollywood as a sex symbol and international star might be Tang Wei in 2014 and if it happens it will not be a surprise to those within the film industry.
