10 Things You Need To Know About 'Game Of Thrones'

Enthusiasts probably know a lot about hit HBO fantasy series, Game of Thrones, but there also probably some things that you didn't know...

The second season of Game of Thrones has recently ended, and the makers sure topped it off with a breathtaking ending. The much-awaited season three is due to hit our screens in April next year, with some fans already on the waiting stage. And for those who think they know everything about the well-acclaimed TV series, here are 10 Game of Thrones facts that might surprise you.

Number 1: Peter Dinklage was the first choice of author George R.R. Martin and producers to play the role of Tyrion Lannister on the show, and they must have been huge fans of his, since they didn't even hold an audition for the role.

Number 2: Sean Bean was also their first choice to play as Ned Stark. They did however hold auditions, just in case Sean rejected the offer.

Number 3: Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage were friends before they became co-stars. When Peter was talking with the producers of the show, he suggested Lena for the role of Cersei Lannister.

Number 4: Many of the actors have not read the novel. They have a fear of finding out what will happen to their character as they believe this could affect their acting.

Number 5: The author of the novel - George R.R. Martin - has revealed how he plans to end the series. He told this to producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff in the event he dies before he finishes writing.

Number 6: Emilia Clarke was not the first choice to play Daenerys Targaryen. It was given to actress Tamzin Merchant, but she decided to leave the show before it even started.

Number 7: A linguistic expert - David Peterson - created the Dothraki language for the series. It consists of over 3,000 words.

Number 8: Jason Momoa or Khal Drogo performed the Haka dance for his audition.

Number 9: George R.R. Martin sent Jack Gleeson - the actor who plays Joffrey Baratheon - a letter saying: "Congratulations on your marvelous performance. Everyone hates you."

Number 10: Alfie Allen - who plays Theon Greyjoy - is singer Lily Allen's younger brother. Her song "Alfie" is about him.
