The 2012 Formula 1 World Championship is just a few days from getting underway, so we have decided to give you a rundown of all of the teams that will be on the starting grid in Australia and the drivers who will be in control.
Drivers: Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber
Red Bull Racing are sticking with the same driver line up again this season that has won them the constructors championship in the last two seasons. Sebastian Vettel will be looking to retain his world championship again but Mark Webber will be hoping to be much closer than last season.
Drivers: Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton
McLaren will be hoping to close the gap on Red Bull this season and Lewis Hamilton will be hoping to put the errors of last season behind him. If McLaren have made the necessary improvements this season, we could just see Jenson Button win his second world championship.
Drivers: Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa
This season could be the last season that we see Felipe Massa in a Ferrari, so he will be pulling out all the stops to compete with, not only team mate Fernando Alonso but also the rest of the championship contenders. Fernando Alonso will be hoping that Ferrari give him a car this year to really challenge for the world championship from the start.
Drivers: Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg
Michael Schumacher has hardly shone since coming out of retirement but Ross Brawn believes that Mercedes will be much more competitive this season and we may just see some flashes of his former greatness. Nico Rosberg will be looking to outperform Michael Schumacher again this season and hopefully land himself a few podium finishes.
Drivers: Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean
Former world champion makes his return to the sport this year with Lotus and will be looking to push the car to the very limit and, with a bit of luck, maybe even have a podium finish or two. Romain Grosjean will never admit it but he is basically just there to try and push Kimi Raikkonen to his limits.
Drivers: Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg
British driver Paul di Resta will be looking to improve on his impressive season last season and outperform his new team mate Nico Hulkenberg. Meanwhile, Nico will be looking to make a good impression and challenge Paul for the lead driver spot.
Drivers: Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi
Last season Kamui Kobayashi showed a great deal of potential and proved that he has the ability to mix it with the best in Formula One. However, the Sauber car is unlikely to be really competitive and Kamui will have to settle for as many point scoring positions as his talent can muster. Sergio Perez is no slouch in an F1 car but it is likely that he will be playing second fiddle to Kobayashi all season.
Drivers: Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne
Despite both drivers from 2011 having a fairly decent season, they have both made way for two new drivers in the form of Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne. Daniel Ricciardo is a highly regarded youngster in Formula One and will be looking to prove himself this season. However, Jean-Eric Vergne will not let him take all the praise too easily. Look for a good team battle between these two this season.
Drivers: Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna
Pastor Maldonado outperformed team mate Rubens Barrichello last season and that saw Rubens make way this year. Bruno Senna has taken Rubens place at Williams and Bruno put in some decent performances last season and will be looking to challenge Pastor this season.
Drivers: Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov
2012 sees last year’s Team Lotus change their name to Caterham for this year’s world championship. Heikki Kovalainen, who raced for Team Lotus last season, remains at Caterham this year and he has been joined by Vitaly Petrov, who replaces the outgoing Jarno Trulli. Both drivers should compete well with each other at Caterham for the 2012 season.
Drivers: Pedro de la Rosa and Narain Karthikeyan
Pedro de la Rosa joins the HRT team for the 2012 Formula One World Championship and Narain Karthikeyan continues to race for the team. Karthikeyan is a good F1 driver, as is de la Rosa, so we could see these two battling it out for lead driver throughout the season.
Drivers: Timo Glock and Charles Pic
Marussia is the new official name of the Virgin team from last season. Marussia have named Timo Glock and Charles Pic as their drivers for the 2012 season but it can almost be guaranteed that these two will always be struggling at the back of the field.
The 2012 Formula 1 World Championship begins with the practice sessions this Friday, March 16, in Melbourne , Australia, with qualifying on Saturday, March 17 and the race taking place on Sunday March 18.
