Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Johnny Depp has previously discussed his relationship with The Rum Diary author, Hunter S. Thompson and how The Rum Diary movie is a tribute to the memory of the man. Now, Johnny’s co star in The Rum Diary, Aaron Eckhart has revealed that it was Depp’s passion for the project that pushed it forward and made it such a special development.
Aaron explained, “We filmed in Puerto Rico, which wasn't bad, and it was a fun movie because Johnny was so involved. It is his passion project, so everyone on the crew has done six movies with him and it was like filming with his family. I got along really well with him. We had a good time, which I was happy about, and you know, Johnny is crazy about Hunter. He is passionate about him and knows him really well and feels a responsibility to carry on his legacy in a certain way, so if it weren't for Johnny, these movies wouldn't get made.”
As well as Aaron Eckhart and Johnny Depp, The Rum Diary also stars Amber Heard, Giovanni Ribisi and Michael Rispoli and was directed by Bruce Robinson. The Rum Diary was released on the big screen in the US on October 28, before then being released in the UK on November 11.
