They may be one of the most successful groups of all time selling over 400 million albums worldwide but that hasn't stopped Swedish pop group ABBA from asking fans for money on a crowd-funding website. The Swedes are asking fans to pay £195 to fund a limited edition biography of their careers called the "The Official Abba Photo Book". The 460 page book comes with new, unseen photos and a foreword written by all four members.
The site PledgeMusic is where they have asked for the donations, a site more known for indie and unsigned musicians to try and get some funding for albums and releases. ABBA must be one of the biggest names to use the site and are perhaps not using it in the spirit it was intended.
In exchange for your £195 ($320) you get your name in the album sleeves in "an extra section of 20 pages listing all the dedicated fans who have made this limited edition possible". The donations are limited to the first 5000 people.
At the time of writing it is unclear how many people have gone for the deal and it remains to be seen how many more will sign up for the deal. Opinion is mixed however - with some fans signing up as quickly as possible and some who are saying that a band with the stature of ABBA shouldn't be begging for money.
