There are a lot of different paths that someones career can take in the music industry and these different paths can determine how long you are around for and how successful you will be. There are some stars in the music industry that have been around for decades and will be around for many more. Others manage to have one hit before falling off completely. Then there are others that are somewhere in between.
Born This Way singer Lady Gaga has enjoyed a successful singing career to date and, way back in 2007 she signed to Akon's record label Kon Live Distribution record label under Interscope. Lady Gaga continued to enjoy success with Akon's record label but not too long ago, Akon decided that the time was right to drop her. Akon has spoken about this decision, claiming that he felt she had topped out and was now on a downward spiral.
Akon recently stopped by for a chat with US DJ Sway on Sirius XM, when he explained, "Actually I cashed out. I got out while the gooding (sic) was hot. It's like a business, you build it to sell it. When I got it to the peak of where I felt it couldn't go nowhere, and there was nowhere left to go but down, I cashed out. In other words I sold my share and got out before it was too late."
Many people would probably say that Akon was right to get out when he did, as the latest Lady Gaga album ARTPOP was considered a flop. It will be interesting to see how Lady Gaga recovers from this and just how much longer she has left in the music industry.
