Since it was confirmed that Warner Bros. would be pushing ahead with the big screen adaptation of the classic story Tarzan, there have been a number of names linked to the lead role. It was previously suggested that Tom Hardy was the favourite to play Tarzan but now it appears that things have changed.
True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard has now become the front-runner to play the King of the jungle in Tarzan, after it was revealed that he was director David Yates first choice for the role. No offer has yet been made but negotiations are expected to get underway in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, another top Hollywood star has been linked to the Tarzan movie. Samuel L Jackson is believed to be in line to appear in Tarzan as the lead character’s side kick, a veteran from the Civil War who is determined to redeem himself following the massacre of Native Americans.
The Tarzan movie has had a number of rewrites from the likes of John August, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, and the most recent one by Adam Cozad. It is expected that Tarzan will begin pre-production next year, with a view to filming the movie in early 2014 and a mid to late 2014 release date.
