Being Jewish and raising a young family can be quite difficult around Christmas time, as there are many young Jewish children who do not fully understand why other children celebrate the holiday yet they do not. If you are a Jewish parent and have struggled with this issue, never fear, as Hollywood beauty Amanda Peet has written a children's book to help explain it all.
Amanda Peet has penned the children's Christmas book Dear Santa, Love, Rachel Rosenstein, as she a way to help her explain the Jewish stance on Christmas to her children. Amanda is married to Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff and the couple have three children together, and they decided not to celebrate Christmas, which led to questions from the children, resulting in this new book.
Peet explained, "My kids started asking me, 'Why don't we have any decorations on our house? Why don't we have a Christmas tree? Why isn't Santa coming to our house?' I had to explain, 'Well, you're Jewish', but that's sort of as far as we got. So I wrote a book about this issue, where some kids don't celebrate Christmas and other cultures and religions don't observe this holiday."
She added, "A lot of kids are jealous. It's beautiful around town with all the beautiful decorations and everything and they just don't really understand why they can't have it. When you're Jewish, they (Christmas decorations) feel very romantic, and when you're left out it feels like it's everywhere and it feels sparkly... (So) I needed the book, I needed a way to celebrate and not celebrate... and I just wanted to give it to my own kids."
Meanwhile, Amanda Peet can currently be seen on the big screen in the US, in the new movie Sleeping with Other People, which is set to land in the UK on January 1, 2016.
