It seems that throwing your toys out of the pram and acting like a child do actually get you places, as that is all Amir Khan and his team have done since losing to Lamont Peterson last month. Amir Khan has called foul play, criticised the referee and criticised the scoring of the bout, which Lamont Peterson won on a split decision. Now it appears that his complaining has been heard.
The WBA have listened to Amir Khan and his team and have ordered that Lamont Peterson must give Amir Khan an instant rematch. However, Lamont Peterson does not have to take the fight but will have to relinquish the WBA title if he does not give Amir Khan the rematch he “deserves”. Meanwhile, the IBF have still not made their decision on the matter and will have a hearing on January 18.
Amir Khan said of the situation, "I'm pleased that justice has been done and the WBA has ordered an immediate rematch. All we ask as sportsmen is for a fair and level playing field when we compete. Lamont Peterson proved in our fight that he is a great competitor and I hope that a second bout will be just as exciting. I want to prove without doubt that I'm the best in the 140lb division by taking care of business in the rematch."
If Lamont Peterson does accept the decision and Amir Khan does get the rematch, he will certainly have to up his game. Amir Khan looked distinctly average in his previous fight with Lamont Peterson and at times he looked very amateurish. However, he does clearly have the potential to be a World Class operator but he has yet to prove that he is good enough to mix it with the best.
