Amrita Rao has been working for a very long time, and she's perhaps one of the best examples of underrated acting in Bollywood. Although she's a solid star with a very extensive resume, she's not the first choice for most movies, where most often it's always the same three names tossed around. However, Rao's one of the most talented actresses in the industry, and she should really be getting more recognition than she does.
With that being said, she did have quite a fantastic 2013 with three different and varied films, which should help her top the casting lists for upcoming films in 2014 and 2015. She was in Jolly LLB, a dramedy opposite Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani. The film, while not setting the box office on fire, did get very solid reviews and has developed into a cult hit since its release.
She was also in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha, which had a fantastic cast and was very well received, both by audiences and critics alike. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, and Kareena Kapoor, among many others. For a political drama, the film actually did quite well at the box office and further established Rao as a strong talent in any genre.
And finally, she also starred in Singh Saab the Great opposite Sunny Deol, and she was the bona fide lead in this film opposite Deol. She definitely held her own against him, and while the film was actually considered mediocre by reviewers, it still provided a lot of exposure for her in the industry. Overall, she's at a solid place in her career, but what she really needs is a lead role in a box office hit that's also a critical success - and after last year, she might just get the opportunity to do that.
