Hollywood legend Mel Gibson might be one of the best actor and directors to ever work in the business, but it is fair to say that he has made the headlines for plenty of wrong reasons over the years, which has led to many stars being unsure about working with him. Talented star Andrew Garfield received a huge amount of praise for his performance in the movie Hacksaw Ridge, but he has admitted that he almost rejected the role due to having to work with Mel.

Mel Gibson made the headlines a few years back for his antisemitic rants and behaviour, while Andrew Garfield is a Jewish actor, which was one of the reasons why he was so unsure about working with Mel. Now, Andrew has been talking about working with Gibson on Hacksaw Ridge, revealing how they had a long chat about everything and got to know each other very well, before he agreed to do the movie.
Garfield was talking to The I Paper, when he told them, "I had long talks with Mel before signing and I got to know him properly as opposed to what you read. We talked about everything and I got to a very sure place."

He added, "I also spoke to a mentor of mine, who is no longer with us, Mike Nichols, and I asked him what he thought of Mel. He said, 'I think he's a tremendous filmmaker and I think you should go work for him'. We are two Jews, Mike and me, so that was the last push I needed. Mel is a wonderful man and director; and human and fallible, as we all are."
Well we are glad that Andrew Garfield did finally agree to work with Mel Gibson, as Hacksaw Ridge is a fantastic piece of filmmaking by Mel, with a brilliant performance from Andrew.
