After the blockbuster success of the ‘Amazing Spiderman’ in July, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Sony, the studio behind the Spideman movies, would greenlit the sequel. Now, it is confirmed that both Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker/Spiderman, as well as Marc Webb, the director of the film, will return for the sequel.

Emma Stone is also in talks to return for the sequel, and is widely expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy (although there are rumors that her character will be killed off at the end of this one to follow the storyline of the comics). The Amazing Spiderman 2 is expected to begin production at the beginning of 2013.
Doug Belgrad, the president of Columbia Pictures (part of Sony), says, "We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide."
Garfield and Stone both reportedly started dating after shooting together on ‘Amazing Spiderman’, but it adds to the question of what will happen if they break up before the sequel resumes shooting. For now though, there doesn’t seem to be trouble on any end.
