British actor Andy Serkis has become the master of the motion capture performances over the years, putting in some impressive performances in roles such as Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies and Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Andy returns to his motion capture best, reprising the role of Caesar for the movie Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and he has been talking about the film.
Andy Serkis was keen not to give too much away about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes but did tease that Caesar faces a few challenges in the new movie. With Caesar having some difficult choices to make about the relationship with the humans, he finds himself butting heads with a few of the other apes in the camp.
Serkis told Collider, "Obviously without giving too much away, that’s what a large chunk of this movie is about, the reactions to that. Because some of them believe - basically there are different ways of going. Everyone respects Caesar as a leader and he has this natural authority, but nevertheless even within the group there will some who think he’s wrong and there will be some who absolutely back him. So without telling you too much about the story, that’s really the dilemma for Caesar."
As well as starring Andy Serkis in the role of Caesar, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes also stars Toby Kebbell, Judy Greer, Keri Russell, Gary Oldman, Angela Kerecz and Jason Clarke. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is directed by Matt Reeves and opens on July 11 in the US, before then hitting the big screen in the UK on July 17.
