An extremely emotional Angelina Jolie has been honoured at the Sarajevo Film Festival for her career with specific homage being paid to her "active engagement in the complexities of the real world".
Angelina Jolie made her debut as a director with a film based on Bosnia's 1992 to 1995 war. When Angelina Jolie picked up her honorary ‘Heart of Sarajevo Award’ she appeared completely overwhelmed, she said "I told Brad in the car I was afraid I was going to cry”.
Earlier in the festival she presented the best actor award to Thomas Schubert who gave a glowing performance in Atman, which was also awarded for best film.
Angelina Jolie has close ties with Bosnia as she visited several times including once in 2010 as a goodwill ambassador for the UN’ refugee agency. On clicking her honour she continued to how honoured she was to be present at the festival, she said "There is no greater example of the strengths of the artists and the festival that began during the war and grew stronger every year"
