When Robocopocalypse was first shaping up, it looked to be the next big thing in the world of robot apocalypse movies, with Steven Spielberg attached to direct and Chris Hemsworth set to headline in the lead role.
Although Hemsworth’s involvement is not yet confirmed, Hathaway has confirmed to Empire in a recent interview that she is set to take the female lead role. She told Empire, "If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it, and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything."
Although she doesn’t give any more details about the character or the plot, she explains why she would be taking time off from her vacation to film this project, saying, “I’m taking time off, I always joke to my team that I’m on vacation unless Steven Spielberg calls. And I was on vacation and Spielberg called. So I was like, ‘OK, put my money where my mouth is’."
The film is currently in pre-production and is set to go into production in early 2013, so the cast would have to be finalized relatively soon. The cast, in addition to Hathaway and Hemsworth, is said to include Ben Whishaw, who also plays Q in ‘Skyfall’.
