There is no disputing that The Lord of the Rings movies and The Hobbit films are both a huge financial success and, whether you love them or you hate them, they have made more money than most movie franchises out there. However, there is now a new debate surrounding the movies, which claims that The Hobbit films are relying too much on CGI, which is making them less impressive.
The Hobbit movies make lots of money

The Lord of the Rings actor Viggo Mortensen, who played the role of Aragon in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently spoke out to claim that, had the first The Lord of the Rings movie not been such a huge success, there would have been no trilogy and therefore no The Hobbit movies. Viggo says that he enjoyed filming The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, as there was very little CGI involved, but he now feels that there is far too much reliance on CGI since then.

In fairness to Viggo Mortensen he does have a bit of a point, as the over the top CGI does seem to take some of that personality away from the movies. With that said though, some of the CGI is also spectacular and makes for very impressive viewing on the big screen. It is a debate that will run and run, with everyone having an opinion on the matter but one thing is for sure, with the money they have made, you won't hear any complaints from the studio.

The next instalment of The Hobbit franchise comes later in the year, with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies opening on December 12 in the UK, before then hitting the big screen in the UK on December 17.
