It has been reported that Arsenal and Chelsea could be set to do a surprise piece of business this summer, with both clubs offloading players who do not seem happy where they are. It is claimed that Arsenal could be set to let winger Theo Walcott join London rivals Chelsea, with Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge moving in the other direction.
Theo Walcott only has one year remaining on his Arsenal contract after this season and has made it clear that he wants a significant pay rise, which would break Arsenal’s wage structure. The fact that Theo Walcott has been distinctly average this season does not seem to warrant such a pay rise, which could determine whether Arsene Wenger decides to let the player leave.
Meanwhile, Daniel Sturridge has become frustrated at Chelsea and has previously voiced the fact that he would not be against a move away from the club. However, this is all currently speculation and other reports are suggesting that Arsene Wenger is set to offer Theo Walcott a new contract in the coming weeks. If the swap deal was to happen, it would certainly be a good piece of business for Arsenal. Watch this space.
