The football club Athletico Madrid has their fans and most of the footballer world in a state of high anticipation concerning what move they are going to make during the transfer window to fill their void at the striker position. This summer their star striker, Diego Costa has moved to Chelsea Football Club and since this announcement the names that have been mentioned to be his replacement for the 2014 La Liga champion squad have been some of the most highly regarded strikers in the world.
Rumours have led to players such as World Cup star performers Mario Mandzukic and Romelu Lukaku as possibilities.
The latter was considered by many to be the player to replace Diego Costa after his sterling performance against the United States as a member of the Belgium World Cup team. However, no sooner was that rumour made public than it was stopped in its tracks by a report that the Athletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone prefers Alvaro Negredo, the Manchester United striker.
Fans of Athletico Madrid are concerned about when the team will be replacing Diego Costa and the concerns are not only held by them. The goalie for the team, Miguel Angel Moya has also expressed his concern about the team finding a replacement and he has let it be known in interviews that he would love for Alvaro Negredo to join the team.
The club has options as it is considered one of the most desirable teams to play for after their success in 2013-14 and their willingness to negotiate contracts with the best players to replace any important players who leave the team.
However, the quality of strikers who can fill the role on a team such as Athletico Madrid are rare and thus the question still exists for fans and footballer insiders as to whom the team will chose as their striker for 2014-15.
Will Athletico Madrid get its target or will they be wishing they had acted sooner rather than later?
