Austin Butler plays the romantic interest to Anna Sophia Robb’s Carrie in CW’s Carrie Diaries, and he’s as much of a dreamboat in real life as he is on the show.
When talking about his personal life away from the show, he mentions that he always gets mistaken for Glee’s Chord Overstreet, adding, “A girl had a whole conversation with me at a party, thinking I was Chord. When I told her I wasn't she thought I was joking.” He adds, “I don't see that much of a resemblance." Despite still being at the beginning of his career, Butler is already thinking about the future and the type of actor he would like to emulate – and his ideal career would be that of Leonardo DiCaprio’s. He says, “He's a character actor in a leading man's body. My goal is to try and figure out how I can do that, too. You can build so many bad habits that don't challenge you that much."
Butler mentions that his girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, helped him prepare for his role in the ‘Carrie Diaries’. He says they both did research together, which consisted of watching the HBO Show ‘Sex and the City’ together, and they apparently ‘loved’ it. However, he adds that while they enjoy each other’s company, there’s also downsides to dating someone as famous as Hudgens, saying, “You have to get used to weird men standing in bushes and jumping out at you. I'm not mean to them...I just ignore them completely. But I've realized if you do anything hostile toward them they can get very mean, very fast. Every time they come up to me with a microphone, I just don't say anything."
While Butler is still at the beginning of his career, he already has a great team behind him and is considered to be one of the brighter stars currently on the CW network. His manager is the same manager who guided Emma Stone to superstardom [and is still with her], so as long as he keeps his head on his shoulders and doesn’t go off the rails, he should be in good hands.
