Avatar director James Cameron has stated that he aims to begin production on the Avatar sequels next year. Cameron has been working on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 since the first movie became the biggest grossing film of all time when it was released back in 2009.

Now, James has admitted that he is hoping to have the scripts for the Avatar movies wrapped up at the beginning of next year. He will then get a cast and crew together and begin filming Avatar 2 at the end of 2013, with Avatar 3 filmed directly after it.
While speaking to The West Australian at the premiere for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Cameron said, “I want to get these scripts nailed down, I don't want to be writing the movie in post production. We kind of did that on the first picture, I ended up cutting out a lot of scenes and so on and I don't want to do that again.”

The Avatar sequels are set to see the return of the lead cast members Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana. There are also bound to be the return of other fans favourites from the first movie and there will be plenty of rumours about who else is joining the cast before the films begin shooting.
Avatar 2 is set to be released in 2015 with Avatar 3 being released in 2016.
