The countdown to the 86th Academy Awards continues today and we only have a couple more days to wait, until we get to see the top Hollywood stars out in force looking as glamorous as ever. There are a lot of tight categories this year, following some fantastic performances in some top films, so it will be interesting to see who wins what award at this year's Oscars.
One actor who had a breakthrough and standout performance this year, is the extremely talented actor Barkhad Abdi, who played the bad guy in the Tom Hanks movie Captain Phillips, stealing the show from the experienced Hollywood veteran. Barkhad's performance in Captain Phillips has led to him being much talked about during this awards season.
Barkhad Abdi recently managed to bag the Best Supporting Actor award at the BAFTA's which has led many to suggest that he stands a great chance at winning an Oscar at the Academy Awards this weekend. The Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar is full of top names but Barkhad certainly stands as good a chance as any at winning the award.
It is definitely not going to be a walk in the park for Barkhad Abdi though, as the rest of the nominees are all very experienced actors who also put in great performances. As well as Barkhad Abdi, the rest of the Best Actor in a Supporting Role nominees are Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), Michael Fassbender (12 Years a Slave), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street) and Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club).
The 86th Academy Awards is on this Sunday, March 2 and we will keep you up to date with what happens.
