Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm is positive about Bayern Munich's chances of doing well in this seasons Champions League despite the shock 3-2 defeat to Manchester City.
Bayern Munich lost 3-2 to Manchester City in their Group D fixture on the 10th December, despite going 2-0 up inside 13 minutes. But this defeat wasn't enough to knock Bayern off the top spot and they still won their group - giving them (in theory) an easier run of fixtures to the final.
Lahm believes that this was a poor performance but it doesn't reflect on how well they will do in the rest of the competition stating "You have to play better than we did today after you take a two-goal lead...However, we won the group and that was our main target". This was Bayern's first loss since mid July so Philipp Lahm might be right as they are in excellent form overall.
Lahm, who is just returning from a short injury clearly feels that Bayern will improve in their first knockout stage game - against a team to be decided, the draw is on the 16th December - and recent form suggest that he will be right. Lahm & Bayern will face a second place group stage team in the next round. He will be hoping that his minor injury is behind him and that he can help take Bayern to Champions League glory.
Bayern Munich drew Arsenal in the next round.
