While a lot of the talk surrounding World Cup 2014 has been about the big nations, who are considered among the favourites for the World Cup, there is one country who could surprise a lot of people in Brazil and go a very long way in the tournament. Belgium are the outsiders to win the World Cup and they have a very strong squad this year, full of potential and the ability to mix it with the best.
While the likes of Vincent Kompany, Marouane Fellani and Romelu Lukaku are all very talented and capable players, all eyes will be on Belgium's star man Eden Hazard during their World Cup opener against Algeria today. Belgium coach Marc Wilmots has spoken about Eden Hazard, comparing the player to Zinedine Zindane, although he has admitted that Eden needs to prove himself in World Cup 2014.
Wilmots explained, “I have replaced the ‘I, I, I’ with the ‘we, we, we’. He is one of the players who can be among the five best in the world. He has everything he needs and now it is up to him to release the handbrake and go. He is 23 years old and playing his first tournament. We will see how he goes. He has everything he needs. I love Eden, but I ask him to be more decisive."
Belgium do not exactly have the most difficult of groups in the World Cup, as they will also face Russia and South Korea, as well as having Algeria in the group. It is fully expected that Belgium will qualify for the knockout stages, with some people even tipping them to go all the way.
How far do you think Belgium will get in the World Cup?
