When it was announced that Warner Bros. and DC had decided to introduce Batman into the next Superman movie, which has now been titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there were a lot of different stars that fans wanted to see in the role. One star that was not wanted by fans was Ben Affleck but, much to the disappointment of many, Ben was cast in the role and he has revealed what made him take the part.
Affleck explained, "Before I took the role, Warner Bros. gave me a bunch of past reactions to casting and said, 'Are you sure you want to get into this? This is part and parcel of these movies now. There’s a lot of active fans with a lot of opinions.' To me, having been through a certain amount of that, it doesn’t really… Everyone’s entitled to their opinion. I wouldn’t have taken the part if I didn’t trust my instincts in terms of the filmmaking."
As well as having faith in his own ability, Ben Affleck also has a lot of faith in the guys behind the scenes and went on to praise writer Chris Terrio for the script he has delivered, as well as saying how impressed he is with Zack Snyder. Ben says that there are always going to be critics no matter what and he has come to understand and deal with that.
Affleck added, "I think Chris Terrio wrote a terrific script. Zack’s a great visual director. And there’s an interesting take. I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think I could do it. I have the benefit of a lot of that understanding. But also, everyone is entitled to their opinion. That’s a big part of this international sport. The Fifty Shades of Grey kid or whatever it is. That’s sort of become a thing."
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will open on March 25, 2016 in the US and April 29, 2016 in the UK.
