The movie Ender's Game opened recently and has an all-star cast, which includes the impressive talents of the British actor Ben Kingsley. In Ender's Game, Ben's character has face tattoos and the star recently spoke about the tattoos and what they are all about.
Kingsley was talking to Jimmy Kimmel, when he explained, "They are Maori tattoos. They're called Tā moko, and the tattoo gives you the lineage for your whole family, your status as a warrior. In my case, my father's status as a warrior. All his forbears, it's all mapped out in the face. So when you greet a Maori, you know their history."
He added, "When you greet a Maori...there's not a lot of handshaking and sharing of family photographs. You just stare at each other and read their faces."
As well as starring Ben Kingsley, the impressive Ender's Game cast also includes the likes of Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Viola Davis. Ender's Game is written and directed by Gavin Hood, based on the novel by Orson Scott Card, and is out now in both the US and the UK.
