Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts are best friends, both hailing from Australia and both finding success in Hollywood, albeit at different ages. However, will they end up going head to head at next year's Oscar awards for Best Actress? Oscar prognosticians say yes - currently, the two roles that have the most buzz going for them are Watt's turn as the late Princess of Wales in 'Diana' and Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly in 'Grace of Monaco'.
Insiders who've seen footage from both films have had raves for both actresses' performances, and one even called Watts' turn as Diana 'stunning'. However, Kidman has The Weinstein Company on her side.
TWC has a acquired Grace of Monaco, and upon the acquisition, Harvey Weinstein spoke about the project, saying, "Nicole Kidman’s commanding performance is the perfect portrait of a woman who was not only royalty, but who also remains a legend of the silver screen and a fashion icon.”
Of course, Weinstein is no stranger to the Oscars, as he just led Jennifer Lawrence to her first Oscar Best Actress victory for her turn in 'Silver Linings Playbook'. Will he be able to do it twice, or will Watts [or another actress] manage to win the Oscar? After all, Meryl Streep's performance in 'August: Osage County' is a sure lock for a nomination as well, and most Academy members can't resist voting for her.
