Bill Hader impersonates Al Pacino’s voice to get restaurant reservations

  • Bill Hader covers New York Magazine
  • Gives advice on how to make in the entertainment industry
  • Adds that he uses his impersonation skills to imitate Al Pacino's voice and get restaurant reservations
Bill Hader recently covered New York Magazine, and gave seven steps to becoming a ‘highly effective’ Bill Hader.  He first says to try anything to make it big, adding, “When I was starting out in the business, I would do anything just to be involved. I would get up onstage and I would fail and I would learn from my failures. So I say, get out there and do anything—except porn. But really, you should try anything—except porn. Don’t say no to anything—except porn.”  He also speaks about cutting down on vices, saying, “I used to smoke, but then I stopped. I don’t drink that much. But sweets are another thing. My weakness is the chocolate-cookie sandwich at Jack’s. If I can go seven days without eating a whole cake, I will reward myself with seven cakes.”
Al Pacino has a distinctive and memorable voice

He adds that if you have impersonation skills, to use them – “Voices are a good way to get in and out of things. James Carville constantly calls my wife to say I’ll be home late. Mandy Patinkin and Al Pacino call to get me restaurant reservations.”

He says to outsource, saying, “I have two children and fifteen nannies” and to get organized, saying, “I set the time on my iPhone to be 30 minutes late, so I’m only an hour and a half late to appointments now.

Finally, he adds that you should delay gratification, saying, “The best thing to do is wait until the shows are off the air and then catch up. I stopped watching The Walking Dead after the mom died, because that was fucking crazy and it’s never going to get better than that. You just have to avoid the entire human population and the Internet while you wait.”  And don’t forget to exercise!  “Even though it doesn’t look like it, I run. On a treadmill. And I bounce around to all the songs on my iPod—the Pixies, Wagner, Richard and Linda Thompson, even books on tape. Just not self-help ones.”
