Just when you think that boxing is beginning to move in the right direction and that the sport is starting to prove that it is one of the best around, another shocking fight is being planned. We have already had the disastrous comeback attempt of Ricky Hatton and the Freddie Flintoff farce and now it appears that another is on the cards.

Roy Jones Jr. before his fight with Joe Calzaghe
It has been reported that 44-year-old has been Roy Jones Jr. could be set to fight the retired 48-year-old Steve Collins. There was talk of the two fighting when they were in their prime but that fight was never made and Roy says that he wants to set things right.
Jones explained, “I've spoken to Steve and I said 'I don't duck or dive nobody', so it's a very big possibility. I wasn't looking for him but when he said he wanted to fight me I was like, 'OK'. I don't know where the animosity came from but if that's what he wants, he can get it. I said 'hey, I'm sorry it didn't happen when it should have happened, it wasn't because of me - but if that's what you want to do, I don't see no problem with it'.”

Collins had previously said, “It's a fight Roy Jones needs. He claims to be one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters around but he refused to fight me. I was very happy with my career, but the one fight I wanted was Roy Jones, and when that didn't happen I retired. He was afraid of me. I don't think he's a coward, but at the time he was.”
With a bit of luck, this fight will never be given the go ahead. If Steve Collins had any sense he would stay in retirement, while Roy Jones Jr. should have retired years ago. Watch this space!
