Although Breakout Kings was initially written for the Fox network, Fox decided to rid themselves of the show following the pilot. In May 2010, Fox decided to try and sell the rights for Breakout Kings and in June they were picked up the network A&E.
The first season of Breakout Kings received average reviews, with some claiming that the characters lacked background and explanation, while others attacked the rough writing style of the series. However, it picked up a steady fan base and has since been greenlit for a second season.
Breakout Kings centres around a group of US Marshals who acquire the help of current prisoners in order to catch escaped convicts. In return, the helping prisoners will have their sentence cut and will be moved to minimum security prisons. However, should they try to escape, they will be returned to their original prison with their sentence doubled.
Breakout Kings was created by Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead and stars Laz Alonso, Serinda Swan and Jimmi Simpson. Season two is expected to begin filming later in the year and will be set to premiere on A&E sometime next year.
