It seems that there are certain formats that people simply cannot let go and will continue to squeeze as much out of it as they can. The hit television series Friends gave us a group of friends that regularly hung out with different relationships within the group. The show was rinsed for all it was worth and was not even close to being as funny as it once was by the end.
When Friends finally came to an end, CBS came up with the unique idea of having a group of friends who regularly hang out with different relationships within the group for the hit series How I Met Your Mother. The first couple of seasons of How I Met Your Mother were great but, once again, the show ran for far too long before finally coming to an end, a few seasons too late.
So when How I Met Your Mother came to an end, it was no surprise that CBS had come up with the same old format in a bid to get more repeat success, bringing us the new series Friends with Better Lives. The show is still in the early stages but it is already clear that the same old tried and tested relationships from the previous shows are in place.
Friends with Better Lives stars Brooklyn Decker, James Van Der Beek, Majandra Delfino, Zoe Lister Jones and Kevin Connolly, and the show airs on CBS on Mondays at 8:30/7:30c. While the show is still in the early stages of its first season, you can't help but feel that this same old format has been overdone and they will have a tough time hitting the heights set by Friends and How I Met Your Mother ... but, it is early days.
