Most of us remember a young Cary Elwes as Westly and a beautiful Robin Wright as Princess Buttercup in the slapstick comedy the Princess Bride. The Prince Bride now over 25 years old is a considered a cinema classic. People fell in love with the Princess Bride because it was one of those films you could watch over and over and never get enough, and not only that it was something the entire family could enjoy. I wonder if Cary Elwes knew the impact this movie would have in cinema.
So what did Cary Elwes get up to after the Princess Bride? He has played along some of Hollywood's biggest stars. He co-starred with Matthew Broderick in Glory, opposite Tom Cruise in Day's of Thunder, and opposite Bill Paxton in Twister. Then he took on a lesser serious role in the Mel Brooke's comedy Robin Hood Men In Tights. And he had roles here and there good roles, but not great ones.
In 2004 we saw another side of Cary Elwes. Playing Doctor Gordon in the movie Saw. It was most unusual. Saw became one of the most popular t franchises. He also reprised his role as Doctor Gordon saw the Final Chapter the seventh and last in the series.
It seems Mr. Elwes has come a long way since The Prince Bride. He was actually reunited with the cast and crew of The Prince Bride at New York Film Festival where they all celebrated with a special screening of the movie that brought laughter and happiness to millions.
