'Nancy and Danny' is a black comedy thriller being developed by Indian Paintbrush, and THR is reporting that Carey Mulligan is in exclusive negotiations to star in the lead role. The project's synopsis is that of a money hungry woman whose big city dreams have failed and, in an attempt to land a high school crush, comes up with a quick get rich scheme. She uses a hapless man as a pawn in this plan, but unfortunately the scheme quickly goes wrong.
The script was written by Brad Inglesby, and it's being produced by Alexandra Milchan from EMJAG Productions, Steven Rales, Mark Roybal, and Todd Field from Indian Paintbrush. James Marsh is on board to direct, and his previous project was the acclaimed documentary 'Man on a Wire'.

THR also reports that sources tell them that Mulligan aggressively pursued the part, which makes sense because the script is considered to be excellent. It was on the 2011 Black List, which is an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays in town. Mulligan is also looking to diversify her resume, and take parts that stretch her acting ability. After appearing in Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby', she doesn't have anything big in development, so this could go into production relatively soon.
Mulligan is represented by CAA in the US and Julian Belfrage in the UK.
