Shame actress Carey Mulligan has revealed that she loved playing the part of Sissy Sullivan in the Steve McQueen movie, although she did not think she would actually get the part. Carey admitted that she had to keep trying to convince Steve that she would be right for the role and eventually she managed to win him over.

Mulligan explained, "I thought, 'They'll never let me play that'. I've been in An Education and Never Let Me Go. She's so far removed from anything I've done. Steve kept trying to leave the meeting and I sat him back on his chair and said, 'What do I need to do to get this job?' I told him I felt a passionate desire to play the part."
Carey then discussed the relief that she got from getting to play a more extrovert character than she usually does. She added, "She was really exciting. Getting to play an extrovert and exhibitionist was a relief." Carey Mulligan stars alongside Michael Fassbender in the movie Shame, which is already out on limited release in the US and is set to be released in the UK today.
