Pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen has revealed how she intended to be a folk singer rather than a pop star. Carly lists the likes of Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen as he inspirations but she admitted that she eventually had to give in to the pull of pop music.

In an interview with Metro Jepsen said, “I was really touched by the fact songs could evoke an emotion and I wanted to give that to other people. I was very inspired by Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen.”
She added, “Leonard Cohen is one of the greatest artists of all time but I became attracted to pop music because of how fun it was and how it can make people happy and want to sing and dance along.”

Carly continued, “My love for pop grew slowly but surely. I'd go into the studio with every intention of writing a folk song but they started to turn into pop songs so I threw my hands in the air and stopped fighting it. It was around that time I wrote 'Call Me Maybe'.”
Carly Rae Jepsen recently talked about her rise to stardom, claiming that it was not an easy road but she is delighted that she finally got there.
