Carolina Ferraz is known as a telenovela star in Brazil, but that doesn't mean she doesn't know her football. In fact, everyone in Brazil is very well versed in the country's most popular sport, especially with the country hosting the 2014 World Cup.
However, the approach to the world cup has been very different with Brazil's two most populated cities, Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo has been much more measured in its response, with a more family friendly vibe permeating the city. Rio, on the other hand, has already been the focal point for several violent outbreaks and celebrations, and has the authorities policing the cities on a round-the-clock schedule.
Carolina reportedly commented on the differences between the two cities, mentioning to Michael Palin for his new book 'Brazil', "Sao Paulo is male. Rio is female. She is quite an old sensual female but a bit decadent. Sao Paulo is an older man. He's a little formal, but once you know him he can be very sweet to you."
I'm not quite sure if the citizens of the city are viewing it in the same way, but tourists and visitors have actually been warned about being careful when attending the world cup. Although Brazil has a wonderful, bustling energy about the major cities, and an equally enthralling culture, it's not the safest place to visit during peak tourist season. However, most locals don't have the same issues with the cities that tourists always end up having. Of course, it seems like more families are starting to visit Sao Paulo this time around, although that leaves Rio as a haven for the party-goers.
