When it comes to the Grand Slams in tennis we always look forward to seeing some of these exciting upsets, where a relative unknown manages to knock out one of the big guns. However, those of us who are actually true tennis fans much prefer to see the big guns going head to head in the later round, showing us who truly is the best around.
The US Open has been taking place this week and, while there have already been some interesting matches over the past few days, the most exciting match so far would have to be the fourth round match between Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki, which took place earlier today. We were very much looking forward to this match and we were not disappointed.
The two tennis stars gave it there all and, while there can only be one winner, they can both be pleased that they were involved in a very exciting match. Caroline Wozniacki took the first set 6-4, which led to some fans suggesting she would win in straight sets. However, Maria Sharapova then turned up and brought her A game, taking the second set 6-2. The fans then suggested that Sharapova would continue her momentum into the final set and win the decider. This was not to be the case though, as Wozniacki responded well and took the third and final set 6-2.
Following her 6-4 2-6 6-2 win over Maria Sharapova, Caroline Wozniacki will now face 13 seed Sara Errani of Italy in the quarter-final, who beat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-3 2-6 6-0 in her fourth round match.
Who do you think will win the US Open?
