There are a lot of female stars in the music industry these days, with te likes of Rihanna, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus all making big moves on the music scene over the years. However, none of these are based in the country music scene, with only a few female stars being successful with country music.
The biggest name linked to country music these days, is arguably Taylor Swift but even she has become more pop than country these days. Then there is Carrie Underwood, who has had a successful music career with her country sound, since appearing on the hit television series American Idol. Carrie has now opened up about the lack of female stars in country music.
Underwood explained, "You would think that we would be farther along in the thinking about women in country music. I like to think things are getting better, but then I see stats and realize that women really do seem to get the short end. There is certainly not a shortage of talented ladies out there that want so badly to get their fair shot in this business. But there seems to be only room for only a few."
The country music scene is definitely overrun with men, in comparison to women, and there have been a number of theories over the years as to why this is. While nobody can really pinpoint the issue, it does seem that women have to work harder than men to make a name for themselves in country music.
