Carrie Underwood Supports Gay Marriage And Offers Advice To Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth

Country superstar Carrie Underwood is amongst the list of showbiz stars coming out in favor of marriage equality.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," the Grammy winner – and practicing Christian – told British tabloid The Independent newspaper.

"I can't imagine how that must feel," she said. "I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

Carrie, who has been married to professional hockey player Mike Fisher since July 2010, says her Christian faith actually convicted her to support gay marriage: "Above all, God wanted us to love others," the Jesus, Take the Wheel singer said. "It's not about setting rules, or [saying] 'everyone has to be like me.'"

The former American Idol champion was raised Baptist but now attends a nondenominational church with her husband.

"No, we're all different," she continued. "That's what makes us special. We have to love each other and get on with each other. It's not up to me to judge anybody."

Carrie's announcement is surprising, because many country stars have a larger religious and conservative following than other celebrities, meaning that she is taking the risk of losing some of her fan base in order to stand up for equality.

Carrie also revealed that she has a bit of engagement advice for Miley Cyrus in a recent interview with Extra TV. The star said that Miley should have a long engagement to Liam Hemsworth before getting married.

The country starlet spoke up, admitting that she wishes that she could have been engaged for longer that she was. Unfortunately, with their busy schedules, things did not work out that way.

She says the newly engaged couple should take it easy for a while and even says: ”If you can be engaged for a while I’m sure that’s really nice, plan everything slow and take your first couple of years just to really hang out together and enjoy it.”

Carrie married Mike Fisher just six months after he proposed. Miley got engaged to Hemsworth on May 31, after a three-year on and off romance.
