The producers and filmmakers behind ‘Divergent’ have been searching for their male lead ‘Four’ for quite some time now, but it seems that casting is starting to come down to a group of main contenders. Shailene Woodley was cast as the lead, Tris, a couple of months ago, and she has a new interview with MTV about how the casting on ‘Four’ is coming along.

Shailene Woodley is 'Tris' in Divergent
She says, “Dude, I want to find him. We have been doing some tests. We've been doing some auditions. We'll see what happens. As of now, we have been scoping out the land. There are a few in particular — two guys — that I think are really great."
Woodley adds that the screen testing among the main contenders has begun, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. She says, “It's more just the chemistry between the two of us and seeing if we do have that chemistry or can work on that chemistry — seeing if our back-and-forth dialogue makes any sense with each other. There's a lot of standards that have to be met."

Jeremy Irvine broke out with 2011's 'War Horse'
Right now, the actors that seem to be in the discussion the most are Lucas Till, Alex Pettyfer, and Jeremy Irvine. Physically, almost all of them fit the bill, but as Woodley said, the actor playing Four needs, “to not have muscles that look good and not actually work. There have been a few guys that have this power about them. It's a natural masculine power that some people have and some people don't. There's nothing good or bad or wrong or right about it. This character needs to be extremely masculine, and his eyes need to scream vulnerability and sensitivity.” In terms of acting ability, Irvine is probably the strongest actor out of the three, but both Till and Pettyfer have decent dramatic chops, although we haven’t really gotten to see them stretch their acting muscles in any of their roles. However, we’ll likely find out very soon about who is chosen for ‘Tris’ as the film is already in pre-production and is slated to go into production very soon.
