Cate Blanchett returns to the big screen as Galadriel in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which is released this week. In the film there are a number of characters with facial hair and facial hair jewellery and Cate said that she fell in love with it all.
Blanchett said on ITV’s Lorraine show, “There was one moment where I fell in love with all of the facial hair and the facial hair jewellery. I mean I don't know if that's going to take on, but it could take off. I said to Peter that if I could come back and wear a beard - because the female dwarves have beards – and I said I'd be up for that.”
She added, “I didn't think I'd get another chance [to play Galadriel] and I've got to play her younger than she was before, which was a challenge. But when you're 3000 years old, give or take 10 years - what's that? It's fantastic, there's no pressure on me really, it's Peter's and Martin's night and the dwarves' night, I'm just along for the ride.”
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released in the UK on December 13 and then in the US on December 14. That is then followed by The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is released on December 13, 2013 and then the trilogy is rounded off with The Hobbit: There and Back Again, which is released on July 18, 2014.
