When it comes to the X-Men movies, while we have enjoyed a lot of what they have had to offer, we do feel that there has been a distinct lack of Gambit in the films. While Taylor Kitsch did play the role of Gambit in the movie X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it did not live up to what we were hoping for and talk soon turned to a new Gambit being cast.
Over the course of the past few weeks and months, there has been a lot of talk about Gambit making an appearance in the X-Men: Apocalypse movie in 2016, while there has also been talk of a standalone Gambit film. Many fans have called for Channing Tatum to win the role, with the actor himself admitting he would love to play the character.
Well it now looks like everybody has got their wish, as it has finally been officially confirmed that Channing Tatum has been cast as Gambit for the X-Men movies. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner previously admitted that Channing was one of her top choices for the role, and she has now confirmed that he has been cast as the character.
Lauren told Total Film, "It is Channing. He's a rogue, he's a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau. He can handle the action, as we know, and he's got a real good heart, I know him personally. He'll be great for Gambit, and he's a southerner too, he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans."
Before we do finally get to see Channing Tatum playing Gambit in an X-Men movie though, we still have the small matter of X-Men: Days of Future Past to deal with, which will open on May 22 in the UK and May 23 in the US.
Are you happy that Channing Tatum has been cast as Gambit in the X-Men movies?
