It has been reported that Newcastle United striker Demba Ba is set to have talks with Chelsea after the two clubs agreed a £7.5m fee. It is no secret that Demba Ba has a release clause in his contract and a number of clubs have been interested in snapping him up in January.
However, it seems that Chelsea are leading the race for the Senegalese hitman’s signature, after it was confirmed that they had agreed to pay Newcastle United the minimum fee release clause. Chelsea will be hoping to have the deal done and dusted by New Year’s Day.
Demba Ba has been in fine form this season, managing to bag 13 league goals for the struggling Newcastle United side, which has drawn attention from a number of top sides. It was thought that his likely destination would be Arsenal but with Theo Walcott being moved up front, Arsenal will now be searching for a new winger.
The arrival of Demba Ba to Chelsea, from Newcastle United, will add a bit of stiff competition for Fernando Torres, who has found form under new boss Rafa Benitez, scoring 7 goals in his last 11 games. Chelsea currently sit 3rd in the Premier League, 11 points behind leaders Manchester United but with a game in hand.
