Chiwetel Ejiofor has been busy promoting 12 Years A Slave, which just premiered at the Toronto Film festival to rave reviews, with many reviewers calling it a sure-fire lock for many Oscar nominations. The critics have been particularly blown away by Chiwetel's lead performance in the movie, with many calling him a possible Best Actor winner.
Of course, we don't know how awards season will shape up with so many movies yet to release, but Chiwetel has been giving many interviews at TIFF in the meantime. In one particular interview, he's asked about his name and his nickname 'Chewy'.
He explains, "The pronunciation of my name is Chew-eh-tell Edge-ee-oh-for. No, I don't go by Chewy at all, although people have called me that over the years, but I am not a fan of it." He also discusses his favorite roles and his passion for acting, saying, "There are just different parts of every role that are exciting and sort of interesting. Whenever you're doing a project, it always feels like the most important project you have ever done. It's always good to have that feeling, and not being thinking this isn't as good as x or as challenging as y."
Twelve Years a Slave is already being distributed by Fox Searchlight, and it will start as a platform release in mid-October. The film also stars Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Brad Pitt [also a producer], Lupita Nyong'o, Alfre Woodard, and was directed by Steve McQueen.
