It was revealed earlier in the year that the reboot of the hit 1987 movie RoboCop would be set to go ahead, following the financial improvements at MGM. It was then suggested that Chris Pine was the favourite to star as RoboCop and that the role was his to turn down.
Unfortunately, it appears that he has had to do just that and has rejected the opportunity to play the titular character. It is believed that the main reason he has had to turn the role down, is due to scheduling conflicts with Star Trek 2, which he is already signed on to do.
It is now believed that Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Keanu Reeves are being lined up for the role. However, it is also thought that a younger leading man is wanted for the part. The screenplay for RoboCop is currently being penned by Joshua Zetumer and it is set to be directed by José Padilha. RoboCop is expected to be released in 2013 but they will need to find a leading man first.
