Chris Pratt has been confirmed as Marvel’s top choice for playing the lead in their ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ film that is set to release in 2014. Deadline reports that Pratt’s team is currently negotiating his deal with Marvel, as almost all actors playing major Marvel characters usually sign a multi-picture deal to appear in more Marvel films.

The role Pratt will be playing is that of Peter Quill [Star-Lord], who is the leader of the ‘Guardians’. Similar to Emily VanCamp getting cast as the female lead in ‘Captain America 2: Winter Soldier’, Marvel has gone with a seemingly off-beat choice for their lead in ‘Guardians’. While Pratt is not a mainstream actor, he has charisma, charm, and strong acting abilities.
Other actors considered for the role, and that Marvel even made test deals with, include Joel Edgerton [co-starred with Pratt in ‘Zero Dark Thirty’], Jack Huston, Lee Pace, Zachary Levi, and Eddie Redmayne.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to release in 2014
While Guardians of the Galaxy will initially be a stand-along movie, Marvel will likely have them team up with the Avengers in Avengers, 3, 4, or 5. At this rate, other franchises don’t stand a chance, especially as Disney also owns the Star Wars brand now. We’re already dreaming of the Star Wars-Guardians of the Galaxy-Avengers team-up that could be possibly be on the offing, although Disney probably don’t want to risk polluting their brand.
