By all accounts, Christian Benteke has had a good career so far. After making his name in his native Belgium with Genk and Standard Liege, the powerful striker moved to Aston Villa in 2012, where he has scored at a rate of more than one every 2 games. However, does the Belgian have the quality to do this with Aston Villa long term?
As we have seen with many foreign players, one good season does not make you a good player. The striker may have impressed last season, but his form this season is not as good, and he has only mustered 5 goals in 13 appearances.
However, he could be helped by Villa's paucity of striking options. Gabriel Agbonlahor is a good forward player, but his scoring rate is not the best. Darren Bent has been farmed out on loan to Fulham and Libor Kozak is still finding his feet in the english game. This unquestionably makes Christian Benteke Villa;s main man.
Yet question marks still remain over his temperament. After being red carded for a cyncial foul on John Terry last season, the Belgian agitated for a move in the summer just gone by, and made some disrespectful comments about his club and manager.
