Christina Hendricks is known as one of the breakout stars of the television series "Mad Men" but it almost did not happen. If the attractive, hourglass shaped actress had listened to her past agency she would never have taken on the role as Joan Harris in the hit series "Mad Men" and likely would not be one of the most in-demand actress in Hollywood.
"Mad Men" in her eyes had potential but her agency at the time did not agree as all they could see was that the show was a 'period piece' which they did not anticipate making any money and they needed it to make money.
Prior to her becoming a star on "Mad Men" she had appeared in small parts in "ER" and "Without a Trace"and had been part of several other shows that had intimated that they would be very successful and go on for a long time but never did. So, Christina Hendricks decided to take a chance and it resulted in her becoming a star in Hollywood who is up for an Emmy in 2014.
She and her manager decided to take the role of Joan Harris on "Mad Men" and it transformed her into a star and role model for many women. She became the office executive of choice for many women, a beautiful, intelligent individual who in charge and makes no apologies for being the one making the decisions.
This 'meaty' role has made her one of the most photographed actresses in the entertainment industry, a woman who is in constant demand from fashion magazines as a cover model and filmmakers and to think that if she had not decided to go with her 'heart' and take on the role she loved she would likely never have become a Hollywood star.
One can only wonder if the acting agency that dropped her has any regrets about dropping her and how they feel now about 'period pieces' and more particularly, how they feel about actresses with strong convictions such as Christina Hendricks.
