Clive Standen is a UK actor who is the star of the History Channel television series "Vikings" in which he plays the role of Rollo. He came to prominence in the acting world for his roles in the television series "Robin Hood" and "Camelot" in which he performed the roles of "Archer" and "Sir Gawain". However, in January 2014 he is not a topic because of his acting roles but because of his ardent fight against the "Grind" whale slaughter that has been takes place in the Faroe Islands every year.
There are many people that will stand up for animal causes but the fact that Clive Standen, an actor whose livelihood depends on having fans be willing to watch his television show and his willingness to stand up for this cause which is admirable but could lead to people not supporting his show is very interesting.
Clive Standen because of "Vikings" has become a heart throb for many of the fans of this show in no small part due to how he looks with his shirt off and now his willingness to stand up for a cause is making him even more popular with fans throughout the world as some are not looking at him in a manner similar to movie actor/activist Sean Penn. Very few people in the acting industry will challenge the fact that Sean Penn is a sterling actor who has recently become known almost as much for his support of Haiti and the need to help the country.
Will 2014 be the year that Clive Standen becomes known as much for his acting as for his stand against the practice of whale slaughter remains to be seen but it must be a scary time for his agents when one considers that the news about him on the Internet is balanced between his efforts to defend against the slaughter of whales and the news that his show "Vikings" will be seen for another season instead of being focused on his acting achievements.
