Actor Steve Zahn who is known for his comedic sidekick characters is now taking on a more serious role as Davis McAlary on the HBO series Treme. Zahn’s part on Treme calls for him to have a deeper perspective than what he is use to playing. Davis McAlary is a musician and activist in New Orleans who has been actively trying to find support for rebuilding the devastated neighborhood of Treme. This particular section of New Orleans was seriously damaged Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Steve Zahn on film
Zahn is close to fifty years old and is starting to transition his career into more serious roles. Actors who spend the early parts of their careers playing laughable characters tend to switch over to more mature and serious roles as they get older. This was true of Eddy Murphy, Jim Carrey and Robin Williams and it also holds true for Zahn as well. Comedic actors typically have to make the transition because older audiences (and the general public) typically do not find older performers all that hilarious when they’re performing in immature or idiotic roles.
Zahn still does bring some of his “funny man” charm to the role of McAlary but he is not allowing humor to dominate the characters personality. Humor is a wonderful attribute for any person to possess so it is not a problem if an older person has comical side.

Many Hollywood personalities say humor is a good thing as long as it is done in taste, good sense and in moderation.
