There was once a time in boxing, when it was unthinkable for the heavyweight title to be anywhere in the world other than the US but times have certainly changed, with America not holding a single version of the heavyweight title for eight years. That was before 29-year-old American knockout artist Deontay Wilder brought the WBC heavyweight title back to the US for the whole country to enjoy.

Deontay Wilder always trains hard
Deontay Wilder beat Bermane Stiverne on a wide, unanimous points decision earlier this month, to be crowned the new WBC heavyweight champion of the world, which you would have thought would have delighted all American boxing fans. Unfortunately though, there are still some critics who keep putting Deontay down and refuse to give him the credit he deserves.
Before his title fight with Bermane Stiverne, many fans claimed that Deontay Wilder had only ever fought bums and that he would get found out in their fight. Others claimed that, since Deontay had never been past the fourth round, having knocked out all over his previous opponents before then, that he would not have the stamina to last the distance. Wilder proved them all wrong and controlled the fight from beginning to end.

Another win for Wilder
With it being so long since an American last held a heavyweight title, the boxing fans should be praising their newly crowned hero. In his fight with Bermane Stiverne, Deontay Wilder proved that he has the brains, as well as the brawn to be a heavyweight champion for many years to come. Bring on whoever is next in line, as Wilder is ready to stay at the top for a long time!
